Notebooks For Designers: Best Models In 2023

Notebooks For Designers: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, there is much software that designers can use in their work routines. As they are programs that demand good hardware specifications, naturally, choosing a notebook for this purpose is challenging.

Analyzing the requirements commonly recommended to run the leading software, we selected the best notebooks for designers across different price ranges and within what you can find among the recommended specs.

How Do We Choose The Best Laptop Models For Designers?

When choosing a good notebook for designers, it is necessary to consider the image quality and the screen the models have because to work with colors, it is essential to make sure that they are as close to reality as possible. Distortions in the tonalities make the difference.

Adding to all this, it needs good RAM to multitask and not have a slow system and experience crashes. Although many programs do not require a dedicated GPU, the presence of a video card is highly recommended.

The Software We Consider To Select Notebooks For Designers:

We prepared the list based on the following requirements:

Photoshop :

  • Windows 10;
  • Intel or AMD 2Ghz 64-bit compatible processor;
  • 16 GB RAM;
  • 16 GB of available hard disk space plus an additional one for installation;
  • 1.5 GB GPU memory and DirectX12 support.

Illustrator Requirements:

  • Intel Multicore processor with 64-bit support or AMD Athlon 64 with SSE 4.2 or later;
  • 16 GB of RAM;
  • 2 GB available space (requires additional free space during installation);
  • GPU with at least 1 GB of VRAM and compatible with OpenGL version 4.0 or later.

Adobe XD Requirements:

  • Windows 10;
  • 4 GB of RAM;
  • Minimum version of Direct 3D DDI feature: 10;
  • For Intel GPU, drivers released in 2014 or later are required.

The Best Laptops For Designers Are:

MacBook Air M1

One of the exceptions on our list of notebooks for designers is the MacBook Air M1 which, despite having 8GB of RAM, is due to better convergence between hardware and software since Apple develops both the M1 processor and the IOS operating system. In this way, the machine can run the leading software for the routine of designers, such as Illustrator and Photoshop.

Another exception that we made to include the MacBook Air M1 in our list is the screen dimensions, as the Apple notebook display is a little smaller, 13.3 inches. Still, the machine compensates for the slightly smaller screen with a resolution above Full HD and IPS panel technology with 400 nits of peak brightness. The Display also stands out for displaying up to 25% more colors and supporting True Tone mode that adjusts the colors on the screen according to the ambient light.

The Apple model is relatively compact, a good option for portability, and has a battery with autonomy for up to 18 hours away from the socket, depending on the intensity and type of use.

Dell Inspiron 15 i1101-M60S

The Dell model has an 11th generation Core i7 processor, a 512 GB SSD, and 16 GB RAM, all as expected and per our specifications for the routine of designers. Especially the SSD, which makes usability more agile, also has good storage space. Another item that favors its use for graphics processing is the presence of the 2GB GeForce MX450 dedicated GPU, although not all software requires a dedicated GPU among its recommended specifications.

The construction of the notebook’s body is mainly made of metal, giving the notebook more robustness and elegance. At the same time, the screen is built with IPS technology, which is more essential and without resources so indicated for professional use. Still, it is possible to use it for such purposes due to the angle of vision within the average for the category.

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Gaming Notebook

The first gamer notebook on our list is the Lenovo Idea pad 3 82MJ0003BR, a model that, despite being designed for games, does not have a design as extravagant as other machines developed for the same purpose, so the Idea pad 3 is ahead in terms of versatile visuals and can go unnoticed in professional environments.

Speaking of professional use, especially for designers, the model has the capacity for exemplary service in graphics rendering due to a good dedicated GPU, combined with AMD’s Ryzen 7 processor and 16 GB RAM. Storage, in addition to being on SSD, an essential requirement for this list, also has a storage capacity of 512 GB.

Asus Vivo Book K513EQ-EJ682W Laptop

Asus Vivo Book line has intermediate options. Like some medium models and the Vivo Book K513 that we recommend, it has an absorbing data sheet for anyone looking for a machine to work with graphic design. The model has a discreet and elegant design, made with a lower cover in plastic and other parts of the body in plastic, but of good quality and that offers robustness when using it.

The model has a factory SSD with 1 TB that solves in a single solution, internal space and speed to access files and open programs. The 11th generation Core i7 processor works with 16 GB of RAM and the dedicated GPU GeForce MX350 that gives it even more breath. Therefore, firepower for graphic rendering and other activities pertinent to a graphic designer’s routine will not be lacking here.

Samsung Book NP550XDA

The Samsung representative on our list is the most accessible option and with a technical sheet that makes it possible to indicate it as a machine for graphic rendering if the priority is to pay less. With an 11th generation Core i5 processor, 256 GB SSD and MX450 GPU, the Samsung Book NP550XDA offers specifications that are considered recommended for most software. Even with 8GB RAM deemed minimal to most programs.

With a body made entirely of plastic and a matte finish, it is a choice to cut costs, but it demonstrates good solidity in the notebook’s construction. On the other hand, the screen has strengths and weaknesses, being full HD with 15.5 inches, but in the TN technology standard, which is quite present in more affordable notebooks in the domestic market because it is cheaper. Unfortunately, this type of screen also distorts the color tone if the screen is not viewed from the front.
